Well here it is the first of the year. I really want to make a big change here at the house this year. Get it not just organized and clean, but really make it reflect us. We are empty nesters now and both of us want to be more select in what we surround ourselves with in our home.
We want inviting and comfortable. But also want a neat not cluttered look. I still need an easy to keep up house.
Through years as we have collected things I had insisted they be usable in some way. We didn't worry much about the value of a piece as much as the nostalgia it brought and it's usefulness to us. Don't get me wrong we know and love the items we have that are collectors grade. But we still want them to be incorporated into our everyday. I want to use my Pyrex mixing bowls. I used em all through my childhood and teen years learning to cook. Why stop using them now?
At this point I want memories around me vs things. Stories. I want every item to have a reason for making the cut. The steamer trunk we bought at the swapmeet when we first moved here. The only coffee table/end table/corner stand/tv stand/book shelf etc... we could afford on our small budget that always and still serves as storage for our Christmas decorations. Vintage mirrors or art by family with family photos are what I would rather have up on the walls. Dishes that are actually used and clear out the extra stuff. Coffee mugs! I hate them!! No more advertising cups, mugs etc... I ban them all LOL
Now the only problem is with my trouble deciding what "style" we want to focus on so our house doesn't feel all chopped up. They say you can never go wrong if you go with what you like? I figure they invented the term "eclectic" just for me ;) !
We are;
Vintage Western Traditional Retro Modern Cottage Shabby French Bistro Diner.
This undertaking just might end me and anyone who tries to help. But I plan to enjoy it thoroughly!
God Bless and Happy New Year
Nena
